NPWA to Host Fifth Annual Fire Hydrant Design Contest
In honor of National Drinking Water Week, North Penn Water Authority (NPWA) will again host a fire hydrant design contest, in which the winner will get to paint their design on a real fire hydrant located at the NPWA Operations Center. The winner will also receive a $50 Visa gift card. The contest will officially run from Monday, May 6, through Thursday, May 9, although early entries are welcome. The winner will be announced on Friday, May 10. The contest is open to students currently in grades kindergarten through fifth.

North Penn Water Authority Meets Stringent Federal MCLs for PFAS Chemicals
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced new Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCLs) for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), including perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctane sulfonic acid (PFOS). The MCL for PFOA is set at 4 parts per trillion (ppt), and the MCL for PFOS is set at 4 ppt. North Penn Water Authority and Forest Park Water Treatment Plant meet the MCLs for both PFOA and PFOS.

NPWA 2024 Annual Fire Hydrant Inspection and Flushing Program Scheduled
Beginning April 1, 2024, the North Penn Water Authority (NPWA) will commence its annual fire hydrant inspection and flushing program that runs through May 26, 2024. Annual inspection and flushing of fire hydrants increase public safety by ensuring that hydrants will function when called upon in the case of a fire. Flushing of hydrants also improves water quality by removing the build-up of materials from the inside of water distribution pipes.

On Tuesday, December 12, 2023, Anthony J. Bellitto, executive director of North Penn Water Authority, testified in Harrisburg in front of the House of Representatives’ Consumer Protection, Technology & Utilities Committee to support the amendment of Act 12, and reiterate the benefits of keeping authorities publicly owned.
