Water Meter Info

Reading Your Meter

First, determine which style of meter that you have. NPWA uses a variety of meters based on property demand and flow requirements. All meters are read and billed in cubic feet and the standard residential meter is 5/8” diameter.

The Neptune T-10 E-Coder meter is a mechanical, nutating disc, positive displacement meter. The register display turns off to save internal battery power. In order to turn the display on, simply shine a light directly on the solar cell for a few moments.

If water is actively flowing through the meter the reading will increase and a small arrow will appear on the screen above the reading. After a few moments, the display will flash to show the “RATE”, in gallons per minute. If water is flowing through the meter, the average rate in gallons per minute will appear. If the meter senses a leak condition – usage of at least one gallon during 75 of the last 96 fifteen minute periods – a small faucet picture will appear above the reading. For more information about the Neptune water meter visit Neptune Technology Group visit Neptune Technology Group.

The Sensus SRII E+ meter is a mechanical, piston driven, positive displacement meter. The register display resets each time that the lid is opened. To turn the display on, simply close the lid tightly, wait a few seconds, and then open completely.

If water is actively flowing through the meter the reading will increase and a small + will appear under the reading. Closing and opening the lid will cycle the display through three different screens. The second screen available is the Alarm display, indicated by “AL”. If an active alarm is showing there could be a leak condition occurring, which is determined by periods of continuous flow. The third screen, indicated by “FL”, displays the current flow in gallons per minute.

The Sensus iPERL meter is an electromagnetic meter with no moving parts.

The register on these meters are always on. If water is actively flowing through the meter the reading will increase and a small + will appear inside of the circle, under the reading. There is only one screen available on these meters.

The oldest meters that we have in our system are the Sensus SRII with Ice or TouchRead registers. This meter is a mechanical, piston driven, positive displacement meter with an analog display.

The register on these meters are always on and are the simplest to read and understand. Water is actively flowing through the meter, the black or red flow indicator will be moving as well as the numbers increasing. Dependent on the rate of flow, it may take a moment to notice the movement.
