Forest Park Water Treatment Plant Expansion
In 2005, the Authority embarked on a joint project with North Wales Water Authority to expand our surface water treatment plant by 33% to meet the growing water demands of our region. The expansion was completed in the fall of 2007, effectively increasing the plant capacity from 30 million gallons per day (MGD) to 40 MGD. Plant capacity is shared equally with North Wales Water Authority. The plant incorporates the latest in water treatment technology to provide water of the highest standard and quality to our customers. We are committed to providing the best water quality we can to our customers in the most cost-effective manner. The Forest Park Plant recently received and award for excellence from the Pennsylvania DEP in 2008 for its efforts in providing some of the best water quality in the country.
Secondary Transmission Main Project
The Authority Capital Investment Plan includes a project to construct a secondary transmission main in New Britain Township from the Forest Park Water Treatment Plant to Route 309. The purpose is to improve emergency contingency planning and reliability of service. The transmission main will be completed in multiple phases and current work includes the installation of 16-inch water lines in Hilltown Pike, Maple and Greenwood Avenues. Construction of this phase started in March 2008 and will be completed by May 2008. A third phase will start construction in May 2008 in Chalfont Borough and will run along Route 152 to New Galena Road in New Britain Township. When fully completed in 2010, the Authority will have a separate transmission line that will create a secondary link from our treatment plant in Chalfont Borough to our distribution system.
SCADA Improvement Project
As part of ongoing security initiatives, the Authority embarked on a project to overhaul its Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) System. This project is now completed and improves security at all of our pumping, storage and well facilities while enhancing our automatic water quality remote monitoring capabilities. The Authority now has enhanced capabilities to monitor system operations from remote locations to ensure reliable, secure and dependable service. Improvements are continuous on this front as technology evolves. We recently installed high-speed encrypted data transmitters and receivers to improve the monitoring security and efficiency.

Developer Projects
Throughout our service area there are numerous projects involving the extension of our water system into a new development. Typically, this work is done by the Developer’s own contractors; however, NPWA provides inspection to ensure that the work is accomplished according to required standards and specifications. We always analyze each extension of our system to determine if there is the potential for any adverse impact on our existing customers. NPWA works with the developer to ensure that all extensions are done in a way to minimize any impact to our valued customers.
