Water Improvement Projects
Project UpdatesProject Photos

The Authority has an active Capital Investment Program that is designed to provide continuous improvement of the water delivery system to our customers.   This program is a direct result of our Water Master Plan.  This planning document provides a blueprint for capital investment in our system to ensure expenditures are completed timely and efficiently and within the framework of our overall financial plan.   In 2010, the Authority has numerous active projects throughout our service area.  Overall, the Authority will spend approximately $5 million dollars (over $169 per customer) in direct investment into our water system in 2010.

Project Updates

New Storage Tank Site Investigation
The Authority is in the preliminary stages of planning for a future water tank within the service area that will provide additional water storage to the growing community.  The benefits include increased water available to the system for fire flow and during peak demand periods, while stabilizing water pressure.  The new tank will also allow us to take our existing 2 million gallon tank in Lansdale Borough out of service for an extended period for the purpose of sandblasting and painting.

Salford Township Project
The Water Authority in conjunction with the Franconia Sewer Authority has completed engineering the design of a booster station along Allentown Road. The new booster, when constructed later this year, will regulate the water pressure for consumer use throughout the Tylersport service area including the new development known as Country View.

Main Replacement and Improvement Projects
In 2010, the Authority is continuing its aggressive Main Replacement Program.  We will continue working with local municipalities to coordinate and schedule additional main replacement projects for 2010, as projects become active.  The Authority is currently working in the following areas to improve the system:

Developer Projects
Throughout our service area there are numerous projects involving the extension of our water system into a new development.  Typically, this work is done by the Developer’s own contractors; however, NPWA provides inspection to ensure that the work is accomplished according to required standards and specifications.  We always analyze each extension of our system to determine if there is the potential for any adverse impact on our existing customers.   NPWA works with developers to ensure that all extensions are done in a way to minimize any impact to our valued customers.

Road Improvement Projects
The NPWA service area has been impacted by several PennDOT road improvement projects. The Authority has been closely involved in coordinating construction efforts.  PennDOT has improvement projects underway on Allentown Road at Troxel Road as well as the Route 309 Connector Project on Wambold Road between Sumneytown Pike and Allentown Road.  Road improvement projects require NPWA’s involvement to ensure the water facilities are maintained and protected as the roadway is excavated and reconstructed.  In this case, both PennDOT projects require relocation of existing water main that are in conflict with the construction improvements.  In other cases, NPWA considers potential extension or replacement of main prior to completion of final roadway paving. This prevents reopening a newly paved roadway as well as serves as a cost savings for water main improvement projects.
