The North Branch Watershed Association held its eighth annual stream cleanup for the North Branch of the Neshaminy Creek on Saturday September 20th, 2008.  Among those attending were NBWA Board of Directors, Robert Showalter, Edward Molesky, Jason Smeland, Meghan Rogalus, and Maryann Regan, Administration and Public Relations Manager with North Penn Water Authority.  Eileen MacDonald of Chalfont Parks and Recreation, a Chalfont area girl scout troop and dozens of group members and interested residents.

This year resulted in a near record turnout of approximately 70 volunteers. The project began at 10am and ran until about 1pm. Volunteers met at the Creekside Inn on Route 202 in New Britain, and worked along the West Branch Neshaminy between Chalfont Borough Hall and Twin Streams park and along the North Branch Neshaminy under the SEPTA rail bridge. Among the most unusual items found over the course of the cleanup were 3 bikes and a lawnchair.

The North Branch of the Neshaminy creek is the headwaters of the entire Neshaminy Watershed and a source of drinking water for over 150,000 residents of Bucks and Montgomery Township. By helping to keep the stream clean, NBWA is helping to keep your cost of water lower and is helping improve the entire length of Neshaminy Creek.

All collected trash was picked up on Monday morning by Chalfont Borough’s Public Works Department. Special thanks from NBWA to Chalfont Borough, New Britain Township, North Penn Water Authority, and the Creekside Inn for their help with hosting and advertising the event, and trash pick up. A very special thanks to all of the volunteers who came out to share the day with NBWA on Saturday.
